M.As a young child,I always enjoyed physical challenges more than mental ones.I liked to run. At thatstage I hadn't yet learned to climb or swim,but that is something I would also have loved to do.One day we hada physical ed ucation class at school. We did the long jump and handstands,but it was when I had to do a for-ward roll that disaster struck.Somehow,I twisted my neck in an extremely painful way.I screamed loudly andthe teachers were verw concerned.An ambulance was called and I was taken to hospital. The doctors fitted mewith a collar and I was told to do no ewercise and stay away from school for eight weeks.At first,I was veryboredl.Having to keep still all day was no fun.So I started to read I looked at books on the shelf at home.Iwasnt interested in love stories-I awoided those--but crime and adventure did appeal.From those eight weeksI developed a lifelong love of reading. When my collar was removed,the doctors told me not to exercise for an-other four weeks.Inst ead of being disappointed.I was happy to devote more time to my new love-reading
